What's at Stake in November?

This Week We Need You To:

What’s at Stake in November: The Trump Verdict and Georgia.

Last week, twelve Americans, subjected to one of their civic duties, convicted former President Donald Trump of 34 felonies in a New York court. This verdict gave Republicans the perfect out: a chance to choose country over party and call for the one-term President turned convicted felon to end his Presidential campaign.

Hopefully, you were not holding your breath.

We also anticipate you were not waiting for the top seven Republican members of the Georgia Legislature, who signed a letter back in March endorsing the now-convicted Donald Trump for the Presidency, to call on the disgraced former President to end his campaign.

Because they did not, either, in fact, many attacked both the judicial process itself and the everyday Americans who dutifully served as jurors.

The facts.

Donald Trump was given the presumption of innocence.

He was given a fair trial.

He was convicted in a court of law.

Of 34 felonies.

This further illustrates what we already know, that heinously gerrymandered State Legislature maps have produced wild yet expected numbers of Republican officials here in Georgia. On top of horrifying outcomes, like Georgia ranking 50th in healthcare, 49th for workers, and 37th for children, elected Republicans in the state are showing their true colors, how little moral character they have, in continuing to support a convicted felon for President of the United States.

Democrats – The Time is Now

With Republicans anchored to Trump at the top of the ticket, Democrats have the opportunity to accomplish two crucial victories: keep Georgia’s 16 electoral votes in the Biden-Harris column – and flip the State House majority by gaining 13 seats. Democrats across the state must leverage the depressingly low outcomes from “Republican rule” in housing, healthcare, reproductive rights, and the economy with their EXTREME SUPPORT for a CONVICTED FELON who attempted to overthrow the results of the 2020 Presidential Election, who is only out to serve himself and has no interest or ability to improve the lives and futures of the people in this country. The list could really go on and on, but you get the point.

Ashwin Ramaswami’s Campaign

On Thursday night, while the Republican Party’s “shining star” was being convicted, The 2030 Project attended an event for one of the Democratic Party’s ACTUAL rising stars in Georgia, Ashwin Ramaswami, who is running for State Senate District 48. Ironically, Ashwin is running up against Republican Shawn Still, a fake Trump elector who aided the disgraced former President in trying to overturn the 2020 Presidential Election results. Needless to say, we are honored to be supporting Ashwin and his campaign. The 2030 Project is very confident that Ashwin will bring integrity and genuine public service back to the people of District 48. To hear from Ashwin, enjoy the following video!

The Future of House District 145: Juawn Jackson

In the race for control of the Georgia State Legislature, House District 145 is one of the few competitive seats in the heavily Republican-gerrymandered legislative maps. Currently held by a Republican, this seat voted for President Joe Biden by 9 points in 2020 and for Senator Raphael Warnock by 7 points in 2022. The path to a majority in the Georgia State House runs through HD-145.

In the Democratic primary on May 21st, in House District 145, no candidate received a majority of the vote, so under Georgia state law, there will be a run-off on June 18th between the top two finishers, Juawn Jackson and Tangie Herring. Jackson finished first with 43.4% of the vote to Herring’s 42.3%, with Donald Druitt being eliminated in the first round.

Juawn Jackson was born and raised in Macon and has spent his life fighting for his community and currently serves on the Bibb County School District school board. Jackson underscores the need to hold corporations accountable for price gouging as well as the current Georgia government, which recently kicked 500,000 people off of healthcare, all to put more money into the pockets of families. Although Juawn Jackson was outspent 3-1, he was still able to prevail and finish first. However, the work isn’t over, and if we want to flip this seat, we need to invest in Juawn’s campaign to push him over the top in the upcoming runoff on June 18th. We invite defenders of Democratic principles to do your part and help Juawn Jackson right Georgia Republicans’ wrongs.
