Why We’re Doing What We’re Doing

Over the past month, as we watched Governor Kemp fail to protect Georgians and democracy, we were reminded of the importance of flipping the state legislature this November.

We need to flip the legislature so that every Georgian eligible for Medicare will be able to access it, instead of perpetuating a system where less than 2% of those eligible can access it.

We need to flip the legislature so that 300,000 children aren’t kicked off Medicaid and denied the healthcare they need and deserve.

We need to flip the legislature so that our state’s budget goes toward our children’s public schools instead of toward private schools that only serve a select few.

We need to flip the legislature so that our college students are encouraged to engage in peaceful protests and political discourse, rather than having their peaceful protests violently shut down by police.

We need to flip our legislature to build a better future for all of Georgia. But we can’t do it without you. We are going to flip the legislature by hiring community organizers in our targeted districts, and we need your help to support them.

With our organizers, we’re going to flip the legislature and elect a government that works for every Georgian. Can you help us?

Michelle Kang for House District 99

Michelle Kang for House District 99

Michelle Kang is currently running as the Democratic candidate for State House District 99 (Suwanee, Sugar Hill, and Duluth). Michelle is a first-generation Korean-American immigrant who came and has devoted herself to Georgia for over 30 years.

Public Service

Committed to public service, Michelle Kang has been serving her community since before she moved to the United States. She pursued a Master's degree at the University of Georgia in Public Administration in order to study the impact that public policy has on people’s lives and make a difference in representing marginalized and immigrant communities. She has served on the Korean American Association of Greater Atlanta (KAAGA) and the Asian Pacific American Council of Georgia (APAC) and incorporates equity and inclusion into every aspect of her decision-making.

Commitment to Small Business

Michelle, a small business owner herself, understands the vital role small businesses play in driving our economy and is committed to advocating for them at the Gold Dome including alleviating labor shortages, strengthening the supply chain, and increasing capital access and training. Her dedication to small businesses shines through her roles as VP of External Affairs at the Korean American Chamber of Commerce of Atlanta and as a board member of the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce. She has also been involved with connecting small businesses with the Economic Development Department of Gwinnett County

Community Involvement

Michelle knows how important it is to strengthen her community. She has organized candidate forums with local, state, and Congressional candidates for Korean Americans to support awareness of the significance of the power of voting and mobilizing one’s community. She has also started organizing cultural events to bring opportunities to minorities in her community.

As a community advocate, she has built coalitions to advance racial and social justice. She organized a Korean supporter group to protest during the Black Lives Matter movement in 2020 and formed the Atlanta Korean American Committee Against Asian Hate after 6 Asian women were innocently killed in a spa shooting. Michelle has had the opportunity to continue to connect all levels of government in an effort to bridge communities together and advance racial equity and justice.

Investing in Georgia

Michelle Kang’s strengths lie in her community involvement. She knows how important it is to be connected to one’s community in order to foster change and expand opportunity. She has been able to see firsthand how important it is to fight for leaders who are invested in improving the lives of Georgians. She truly wants to find solutions to the challenges that Georgians face.

Gen Z: Georgia’s Next Generation of Leaders

Bryce Berry for House District 56

Democrat Bryce Berry is running in a contested primary for State House District 56 in Atlanta. If elected, Bryce would not only be the first Gen Z member of the Georgia State House, he would also be the only public school teacher serving in the Georgia General Assembly.

Ironically, Bryce is running to replace Democrat-turned-Republican Mesha Mainor, who helped lead the charge for private school vouchers. This legislation, which will drain money from public education, was recently signed into law by Governor Kemp. As a middle school math teacher for the Atlanta Public School System, Bryce knows firsthand we need more investment in our public schools – and in our young people – not less. And he’s ready to deliver on that promise.

A graduate of Morehouse College and former President of the Young Democrats of Georgia, Bryce is unwavering in his commitment “to swing open the doors of opportunity for every resident in Georgia's 56th District. Recognizing the weight of history in our present moment, I firmly believe in our collective power to seize opportunities, bring forth results, and secure victory for the people I am committed to serving.”

Bryce is passionate about economic development, education, affordable healthcare and housing, and addressing gun violence in Georgia. In fighting for the 56th District, Bryce will lean on his extensive experience as a community organizer, having served as both a state youth leader for Biden/Harris in 2020 and as Deputy Political Director for the 2022 Coordinated Campaign, which saw the successful reelection of Senator Raphael Warnock.

To end 20 years of Republican control in the State Legislature, Georgia needs to elect Democrats like Bryce Berry. We need more leaders in the legislature who have the passion, vision, and work ethic that can bring about the kind of positive change Georgians have been waiting for far too long. By electing community-centered candidates like Bryce, we can build a better, brighter future for Georgians and their families.

We at The 2030 Project are proud to support Bryce Berry for State House District 56, and we couldn’t be more excited to see him in action under the Gold Dome come next January.
