How Gen Z Can Help Elect Harris-Walz

In the race for the White House, Georgia is once again set to be a pivotal state in shaping the country’s future. According to several forecasts, including from 538, Georgia has a high chance of being the tipping point state that ultimately determines the outcome.

Since the 2020 presidential election, the state has gained over 200,000 new residents, many consisting of young people—including students at higher education institutions.

It’s crucial to get as many young people registered as possible. Remember, in 2020, President Joe Biden won Georgia by just over 11,000 votes, with a margin that small, EVERY VOTE COUNTS! Just like 2020, young voters have the power to shape their futures and make their voices heard, from the top of the ticket to local races.

Update Voter Registration Statuses:

For young voters, who could be the deciding factor in Georgia’s next election, there are a few key things to keep in mind when registering.

First, make sure you’re registered at your current address in Georgia. If you live in a dorm, use that address on your voter registration form, and if you’ve moved since last year, don’t forget to update it. You don’t need a Georgia driver’s license to register—any state ID or passport works, plus the last four digits of your social security number. And remember, if you’re not 18 yet but will be by November 5th, you’re still eligible to register to vote.

Stay Up to Date on Key Deadlines:

  • The voter registration deadline is October 7th. Georgia residents can register here.

  • Early voting begins on October 15th.

  • Request your absentee ballot here by October 25th. Be sure to mail absentee ballots early so they can be processed before Election Day.

  • Election Day is November 5th—be sure to get out to the polls and make a difference!

Engage in Relational Organizing:

Relational organizing in political campaigns relies on engaging voters through trusted, personal connections. Young people excel at this approach due to their social media fluency, peer networks, and enthusiasm for grassroots activism.

In the last four years, we’ve seen Senator Markey (D-MA), Senator Ossoff (D-GA), and the Harris-Walz ticket (KamalaHQ) make tremendous use of relational organizing. Through social media, young people utilize platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Twitter to share political content. For example, the “Markeyverse,” a digital community of shared memes and personal endorsements, drives enthusiasm and voter engagement. Through peer-to-peer networks, young people can leverage their immense social universe to drive voter turnout among those under 30, much like the Ossoff campaign in the 2021 run-off. Finally, through content creation, we’ve seen young people’s creativity shine in producing relatable content, just like KamalaHQ in 2024.

Join Student and Local Organizations:

Another way to influence the upcoming election's outcome is to join local organizations, whether on campus or in your community. If you need a place to start, look in your area for chapters of Young Democrats or Students for Harris. These groups often have opportunities for canvassing, phone banking, or letter writing that will connect you to voters on a personal level.

What’s Happening in Georgia

Candidate Spotlights

We are excited to endorse Laura Murvartian for State House District 48! Laura is the bold, dedicated voice we need at the capital. Her commitment to fighting for all Georgians makes her the clear choice to flip this district blue and bring real change. To learn more, please check out her website.

Target District Updates

Ashwin Ramaswami recently earned the support of Fair Fight Action, the political powerhouse founded by Stacey Abrams. With this endorsement, voters can trust that Ashwin will fiercely advocate for free and fair elections if elected to the state senate.

Michelle Kang also received a big endorsement from the Progressive Turnout Project, the nation’s largest voter contact organization. Following the recent mass shooting in Winder, Kang made her position on gun violence clear, standing firm against it. With an F rating from the NRA, she is the clear choice for those who prioritize safety, showing a stark contrast to her opponent by refusing to accept mass shootings as “normal.”

A vote for Ashwin Ramaswami and Michelle Kang is a vote for democracy! Here at The 2030 Project, we look forward to seeing everyone at the polls in November!
