DOGE Comes To Georgia – Who Invited Them? (You Can Probably Guess)
Insight on What DOGE's Plans Mean and This Week's Legislative Updates

Why Georgia Needs a New Direction

As unelected oligarch Elon Musk takes a chainsaw to the Federal Government, destroying public trust and harming countless lives and institutions, including firing over 1300 employees at the Atlanta-based CDC, Deep State Georgia Republicans are taking aim at our own State Government with Senate Bill 28, known as the “Red Tape Rollback Act of 2025.” Georgia Republicans claim the bill will reduce government regulations by requiring state agencies to review existing rules every four years. The bill would also mandate legislative approval for any new regulation with an economic impact exceeding $1 million over five years.
Lt. Governor Burt Jones claims the bill “mirrors the great work President Trump is doing in Washington to create efficiency, reduce unnecessary spending, and eliminate bureaucratic red tape across state agencies.”
Hmm. Ok. Well, a few things to consider:
President Trump’s “great work” has resulted in 70,000 federal employees losing their jobs through firings or “buyouts.” The termination of 200,000 probationary employees could further increase this number in the coming months. “Out of work and unable to pay your bills” was not the November mandate as we remember it…
That “great work” also includes one of the worst months in aviation history to start a Presidency, one of the worst measles outbreaks in decades, and the biggest decline in consumer confidence since August of 2021, as inflation fears grow. President Trump is really putting the “Great” back in “Make America Great Again.” And Burt Jones and Georgia Republicans want to bring even more of that “Great” to our state. Fantastic!
And speaking of those Georgia Republicans, they have controlled the Governorship, State Senate, and State House for 21 CONSECUTIVE YEARS. If they have done such a poor job of managing the state that we need to take a DOGE-like chainsaw to our Government, what does that say about both their leadership and their ability to govern?
Truth is, anything remotely in the spirit of Musk and Trump’s DOGE is bad news for Georgians.
–reduced services from state agencies
– lower employee morale (reminder, Georgia ranks 50th in worker happiness!)
– potential privatization of services, which would only increase costs for Georgians
For a state that already ranks 50th in healthcare, 50th in discretionary income, 49th for workers, and 37th for children, Georgia Senate Bill 28 would give elected Republicans even more power over the well-being of Georgians – power that they have proven over the last 21 years that they absolutely cannot be trusted with.
Which leads us to our sobering graphic of the week…

The hard, valiant work of Georgia Democrats in both the State House and State Senate often gets overlooked because most Deep State Georgia Republicans have no genuine interest in improving the lives of Georgians.
While Georgia Republicans are lining the pockets of big business and targeting our young people, Georgia Democrats have bills to improve healthcare, housing, education, the economy, and so much more. But the reality is, this is what being in the minority party looks like.
And that is precisely why The 2030 Project exists. To put Democrats in the Majority and to improve the lives of Georgians. From young folks and rural folks, from Rabun to Camden, and everyone, and everywhere in between, Georgians deserve a legislature that works for THEM.
We here at The 2030 Project are already working on a plan of attack for our 2026 Target Districts. Democrats need to flip 11 seats in the State House next year to take the Majority.
Doable – but only with your help!

Legislative Session Updates: Day 24
Crossover Day (March 6th) is just a few days away, marking the 30th day of the legislative session when most bills switch chambers for further consideration. This day is crucial because it determines which bills remain in play for the rest of the session and sets legislative priorities.

Advocacy at the Capitol
In the ongoing fight for policies that serve all Georgians, firsthand advocacy makes a powerful impact. Below, Deven, a 2030 Project intern, shares his experience lobbying at the Georgia State Capitol.
Last Thursday, the Young Democrats of Emory and the Georgia Tech Democrats went to the Capitol to lobby against a few of the staggering number of horrible bills proposed by legislative Republicans and support some common sense ones. We had the privilege to converse with Democratic Representatives Bryce Berry, Omari Crawford, Saira Draper, and Senator Elena Parent about the current bills working their way through the chamber that would affect all Georgians. I was there in support of Senator Parent’s bill that would require parents to lock up their guns to prevent minors from gaining access.
While this sounds like common sense, unfortunately, Republicans were against it, but by putting pressure on GOP legislators, we showed that this is an issue that matters. Although we didn’t have that much time at the Capitol, it was clear that the Republican legislators were not used to being challenged, and we intend to go back more frequently to hold legislators accountable.
I urge everyone reading this to make your voice heard; even if you cannot go to the Capitol, call or email your representatives. We heard firsthand from Senator Parent that it truly works.
