Passing the Torch from Biden to Harris

On Sunday, July 21st, President Joseph R. Biden announced he would not run for re-election and wholeheartedly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris to succeed him. We at the 2030 Project sincerely thank President Biden for not only his long life of service to this country but for saving democracy. Thank you, President Biden, for putting the country first and reminding every American what real leadership looks like. This is what cements his legacy. He helped save democracy from right-wing extremism, restored dignity to the White House, made historical appointments, navigated COVID recovery, championed pro-union values, and so much more.

We are thrilled to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic nominee for President. Her exceptional experience, unwavering dedication, and visionary leadership make her the most poised candidate to lead us forward. Electing her would be a historic opportunity to make her the first female President, inspiring future generations of women.

In 2020, Georgia turned blue for Biden-Harris, and we can do the same in 2024. With democracy on the line, The 2030 Project commits to doing everything we can to help Vice President Harris win in November and continue the progress we’ve made electing Democrats up and down the ballot. To show your support for Vice President Harris, please consider donating to her campaign and to the 2030 Project to keep Georgia blue!

Trump Assassination Attempt

In light of the recent attempt on former president Trump’s life, we at the 2030 Project condemn all forms of political violence, a stance widely shared among the Democratic party members.

For almost two decades, the United States has faced a worsening gun violence epidemic. Unfortunately, lawmakers’ prioritization of a limited reading of the Second Amendment has only served to exacerbate the issue of gun violence. Additionally, a slew of rulings from the Supreme Court, like Garland v. Cargill and New York State Rifle & Pistol Association, Inc. v. Bruen, further bolster policies aimed at deregulating the firearms industry. The recent attempt on the former president’s life may very well be one symptom of this widespread epidemic.

The shooter, a young white male in his early twenties, was identified as the individual who attempted to assassinate the former president. On the day of the rally, he bought a box of ammunition containing fifty rounds and used an AR-style rifle owned by his father. This is just one more horrific example of violence that is way too easy to carry out with our current gun laws.

While we may not know how events might have played out in a counterfactual world where Congress passed further restrictions on access to guns, we understand that these events follow a precedent of easy access to firearms. In prioritizing a limited reading of the Second Amendment over policies saving our citizens’ lives, lawmakers have contributed to the gun violence epidemic. This epidemic has claimed the lives of countless children, students, and adults alike. On July 13, 2024, former President Trump was nearly a victim of his own party’s zeal to deregulate the firearms industry.

Trump’s Vice President Pick

The Republican nominee for President, convicted felon Donald Trump, announced Ohio Senator JD Vance as his running mate for Vice President during the Republican National Convention.

Here are 10 Things You Need To Know About JD Vance, demonstrating why he is not only an extreme and dangerous choice for Vice President but also a hypocrite who lacks a moral center.

  1. He supports Project 2025's "good ideas," like cutting Social Security and Medicaid

  2. He supports a nationwide abortion ban

  3. He compares abortion to slavery

  4. He opposes marriage equality and antidiscrimination protections for the LGBTQ+ community

  5. He raised money for the January 6th insurrectionists

  6. He called Donald Trump "reprehensible," a "moral disaster," and a "total fraud"

  7. He called pregnancy arising from rape "inconvenient

  8. He called Kamala Harris a "childless cat lady who does not have a stake in this country"

  9. He said, unlike Mike Pence, he would have helped Trump overturn the 2020 election

  10. He said Donald Trump might be "America's Hitler"

JD Vance is an ultra-MAGA extremist who is ready to help Donald Trump pass his authoritarian Project 2025 agenda at the expense of American families. He cannot be trusted with the power of the vice presidency, and the Trump-Vance ticket must be defeated in November.

Potential Democrat Vice President Picks

As this week’s news has surrounded Kamala Harris as the leading Democratic nominee for President this election, the discussion around who her campaign might choose as her running mate has ignited. As Kamala Harris would be the first woman to take presidential office, her running mate will likely be someone with political jurisdiction in a swing state. Although it is too early to tell who the pick for the ticket might be, here are several qualified contenders:

Josh Shapiro: Governor of Pennsylvania

Governor Shapiro won Pennsylvania in 2022, a state that went red for Donald Trump in the 2016 election but then flipped blue for Biden in the 2020 election. He defended Pennsylvania’s election results in 2020 after they were referenced in Trump’s false, fraudulent election claims. It is important to note his campaign also consistently ran on including the right to abortion and vetoing any bills that infringed upon this right.

Roy Cooper: Governor of North Carolina

Governor Cooper is battle-tested, having frequently crashed with the super-majority Republican state legislature in North Carolina, which is one of the seven swing states that will decide this election.

With a rejuvenated Democratic Party of North Carolina led by 26-year-old chair Anderson Clayton, Governor Cooper would be a strong choice to help flip the state for the first time since Obama in 2008.

Mark Kelly: Senator of Arizona

Arizona continues this pattern of vice president contenders residing in battleground states, as Biden won Arizona in 2020 by only about 10,000 votes. Interestingly enough, Senator Kelly is a former astronaut. Although a gun owner himself, Senator Kelly has advocated for tighter gun control legislation, including universal background checks. Senator Kelly has also pushed for abortion access for women in Arizona and around the country.

Andy Beshear: Governor of Kentucky

Although Kentucky is more of a deep red state than the previously mentioned states, Gov. Beshear won reelection to a second term last November, showcasing his popularity in the state. His time as Governor has been marked by disagreements with the Republican-led state legislature over education, public assistance, and tax policy. Gov. Beshear has also been pivotal in adding Kentuckians amidst the pandemic and several major natural disasters. His strength is his ability to relate to rural communities.

Pete Buttigieg: US Secretary of Transportation

As the first openly gay man to launch a competitive campaign for President in 2020, Buttigieg is a pillar of the Democratic party. He is the current Secretary of Transportation, overseeing the largest bipartisan infrastructure bill that will create an estimated 1.4 million jobs over the next ten years.

With newfound energy at the top of the ticket, led by Vice President Kamala Harris, we can make this a change election for the Georgia State Legislature, especially with so many women running in swing districts. Please consider donating to The 2030 Project as we work over the next 103 days to put hardworking Georgians and their families first and end 20 years of Republican control.
