2024 Democratic National Convention Recap

Joy is on the ballot! Perhaps one of the most memorable and joyous Democratic National Conventions featured the Harris-Walz campaign front and center.

Vice President Kamala Harris has taken the national lead, with support from 47% of voters. In comparison, the disgraced former President Trump has 43% of voters. Among likely voters, Vice President Harris leads at 49% and has the support of 53% of women.

Polling by Florida Atlantic University reveals stark emotional divides in the two candidates’ voter bases. Among Vice President Harris’ voter base, 52% are experiencing positive emotions; among Trump’s base, only 34% feel positive.

At the 2030 Project and as Georgians, we were proud to be represented by Former Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan. Comparing his party to a “cult worshiping a felonious thug,” the Republican passionately denounced Donald Trump and urged others across the country to do the same.

Another memorable appearance from a Georgian took place during the roll call. Atlanta native Lil Jon performed a mashup of his hits “Turn Down For What” and “Get Low” to introduce Congresswoman Nikema Williams, who cast Georgia’s votes for Kamala Harris’ nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate.

Hear more about the Democratic National Convention through the eyes of Eric Gisler, a Georgia delegate and co-founder of The 2030 Project:

Attending the DNC in Chicago was equal parts exhilarating, exciting, energizing, and exhausting! The days were very long, starting with breakfast every morning at 7 am and running through the evening program and after parties, often not returning to the hotel until 2 am! Throughout each day, from breakfast until the parties, delegates had the opportunity to meet, hear from, and speak with Democratic leaders from across the country. After our show-stealing roll call on Tuesday night, the Georgia delegation were treated like rock stars for the rest of the convention!  My takeaway from the convention experience is that the party is truly energized and united behind VP Harris and Governor Walz. Everyone was eager to get back home and help Democrats win all the way down the ballot! We are fired up and ready to go because we are NOT going back!

Election Integrity Under Threat: Controversial Law Changes

In a controversial move on July 12th, three conservative Georgia State Election Board members unilaterally called for a vote on significant election rule changes, bypassing the board’s chair. These new rules authorize county election officials to launch “reasonable inquiries” and delay certifying election results to investigate potential irregularities. This is a clear attempt at voter suppression, designed to benefit Donald Trump if he loses the popular vote. Trump’s praise for these changes only fuels misinformation, further eroding trust in the electoral process mere weeks before the election.

In response, the Democratic Party of Georgia filed a lawsuit on Monday, arguing the changes violate state law by assuming election certification is discretionary rather than mandatory. As calls for removal increase, Governor Brian Kemp is actively exploring his authority to do so with the Attorney General. To learn more, read here

Harris-Walz Campaign makes Monumental Stop in Savannah, Georgia Today

Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz are set to hold a rally in Savannah, GA today in an attempt to build momentum in the sun belt. This visit illustrates the Harris-Walz campaign’s desire to appeal to Georgia’s rural areas outside of the democratic capital in Atlanta.

It is noted that for the Democratic ticket to win the state of Georgia, the campaign needs to make a strong effort in appeal to young and minority voters across the state in order to see high voter turnout in November. Rural communities want to feel just as important as urban democratic hubs. The mobilization effort for the Harris-Walz campaign in Georgia has been vast with 35,000 volunteers, 174 staffers, and 24 coordinated campaign offices across the state.
